Click Here to Read the complete article published in the September 1979 Hughes News Any testing professional that has found the tremendous benefits of adding HALT and HASS to their quality program must thank the Original Design Effectivess Operations Team consisting of Richard Baker, Hank Abstein, Allen Curtis, Jim Kallis, Gus Lena, Walt Marotta, Dennis Page, Sam Santospirito, and Chuck Talbott. These innovators located at Hughes Electro-Optical and Data Systems in El Segundo, CA found an inexpensive method to improve quality and reduce time-to-market, an original concept in 1979. After receiving multiple internal cost effectiveness and quality awards, Richard Baker was given the right to manufacture the world's first pneumatic omni-axial vibration system with his innovative techniques. This invention was recorded under U.S. Patent No 4,181,026 and several other related patents. The first customer was Santa Barbara Research Center for testing the AIM 9L/AIM 9J electro-optical fuze and the XMI/FVS/M60/M113/LVP7 Fire Suppression Systems. These systems were installed and technology training was performed by Richard Baker and Peter Baker. This was the true beginning of ESS and Enhanced ESS which developed into the usage of the terms HALT and HASS. MORE HISTORY TO BE ADDED SOON....
